Over the Moon for Over the Rainbow Apparel

Over the Rainbow Apparel is not just another clothing company. It is a collection of ready to wear battle armor with a cool aesthetic that gives back to the LGBTQ community.

When co-founders Alex Asero and Abel Killian met over ten years ago, not only did they form a tight bond that would eventually become a brotherhood, they would also become part of a support system. They learned that their taste in music and art weren’t the only things they had in common as they both began transitioning, and are currently each in their ninth year.

Drawn from a tattooer’s perspective, the art of Over the Rainbow Apparel features artwork from Killian, who is also an artist at Lucky 13, with purposeful designs that rest on the fabric like ink to skin. These thoughtful designs are part of what Asero believes helps their brand stand out.

“It’s like a ‘dreamers’ versus the ‘realists’ conversation,” said Asero. “Each design encompasses a certain meaning which is something that no one really ever admits that they have in common when it comes to pride.”

A big part of Over the Rainbow’s message and mission statement is about togetherness and support. Asero hopes that when people wear their clothing, he hopes that it helps people feel not only connected to their community and themselves, but as though they are wearing battle armor out into the world as they maneuver their day to day lives which can feel like war on even the best days sometimes.

“We call our supports ‘soldiers’ for a reason,” said Asero. “When you put on OTRA merch, it can feel like a field of protection without being outed or uncomfortable.”

Currently Over the Rainbow’s line features items such as t-shirts, hats, and accessories such as koozies, stickers, and mugs, however Asero and Killian are actively searching for new products to expand the line.
