Film Remembers Dirtwoman as Richmond Icon

So, what exactly does it take to become an RVA legend? Learn from the greatest in a documentary set to have a new distribution deal.

A few years ago, filmmaker Jerry Williams set out on a mission to tell the unique story of a queer Richmond icon known as Dirtwoman. Now,"Spider Mites of Jesus: The Dirtwoman Documentary” is available for online streaming through an exclusive deal with Ariztical Entertainment — a company focusing on quality LGBT and independent films that challenge contemporary cultural boundaries.

The documentary focuses on the late Donnie Corker, an Oregon Hill native who became a local celebrity and drag queen. Corker worked odd jobs, had crazy health scares, and connected in unforgettable ways with the Richmond community. He consistently made headlines with his outrageous, unmistakable, and controversial stunts.

Footage spanning from 1999 through 2018 includes work from local videographers and photographers. Initially, the documentary premiered at the Richmond International Film Festival in 2018 and received a theatrical screening in February.

“We love Dirtwoman! With his uncanny resemblance to Divine and his own legendary experience,” Ariztical president Michael Jack Shoel said.

The company now has over 150 independent films available internationally on television, video-on-demand, and DVD. In this film, Corker’s personality shines through as you laugh and learn about Richmond’s LGBTQ culture from his unique perspective.

The documentary is currently available on DVD as Ariztical re-edits the film for its streaming service.
